My gpu does not downclock at idle.

Go to solution Solved by Slow N Stupid,

are you using any software to overclock it? have you try clean reinstall drivers?

EDIT: remember to use http://www.guru3d.com/files-details/display-driver-uninstaller-download.htmlfor clean uninstall

This has been on ongoing problem for me for a long time. It seems to vary depending on drivers from nvidia but for what seems like a long time now I have not seen my card downclock at idle. I was hoping someone could tell me a way to fix this or force it to downclock.

I know on my 280, in Afterburner there's a setting for PowerPlay that I need to enable to downclock. Not sure about nVidia cards though.

Yes I am using afterburner, but even if I take all the settings in afterburner and turn everything down it still sits at 876mhz stock clock

it's also been a while since I have used that but I guess it won't hurt to try again. Thank you @Slow N Stupid it seems to have done the job. Even though I always do a clean install, I guess they were not that clean. I am down to 324mhz like it should be even with an nice overclock active in afterburner. Weird how that happens.
