HI,

I'm currently interested in Building a new PC but am confused as to which Chipset I should use. Is X99 Worth it or what would be the best value? I am planning on building an entire new build except I am going to temporarily migrate my current GPU which is a Asus HD 7790, until nVidia release their next range of cards.. or GTX 980s become cheaper.

My current budget is £550~ for everything excluding a Graphics Card and a SSD. But overall  I would have about ~£1000 for the entire build

Here is the Case I plan on using

Thanks :D

Midori:

Welcome to the forums! If you only have 1000, X99 is out of your budget anyway. Here's what I'd recommend:

CPU: Intel Core i5-4690K 3.5GHz Quad-Core Processor  (£174.00 @ Amazon UK)
Motherboard: Asus Z97-A ATX LGA1150 Motherboard  (£115.99 @ Aria PC)
Memory: Mushkin Blackline 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-1600 Memory  (£53.10 @ CCL Computers)
Storage: Samsung 850 EVO-Series 250GB 2.5" Solid State Drive  (£80.97 @ Amazon UK)
Video Card: EVGA GeForce GTX 970 4GB Superclocked ACX 2.0 Video Card  (£273.59 @ Aria PC)
Case: NZXT H440 (Green/Black) ATX Mid Tower Case  (£84.99 @ Amazon UK)
Power Supply: EVGA 750W 80+ Gold Certified Fully-Modular ATX Power Supply  (£90.11 @ Amazon UK)
Total: £911.09

Will DDR3 RAM be okay for about the next 4 years? Is there really any advantage to DDR4?

Also Should I upgrade now or should I wait until the summer? Does it matter?

I have so many questions xD

Thanks

this is about what i'd get for that price (as requested) without SSD and GPU for £550

i wasnt sure if you needed a HDD or not, but a 2TB or even 1TB drive should squeeze into budget, if not, lower the ram to 8GB (2x4GB) and you have some more headroom.

(16GB is probably overkill to start with)

and to answer your question: DDR3 will be fine, as much as the CPU you buy will be fine.

EDIT: welcome to the forum, congrats on such a well-explained first post.

How about this build? It's without the SSD and GPU :P An i5 would be good enough for light photo editing and using FL Studio, Right?

Would you advise I reuse my old RAM as well It's 2 4GB sticks of Patriot DDR3? It's only 1333 MHz though..

And am I right in saying CPUs aren't really a factor for bottlenecking in games just The GPU?
