Want to do a HUGE upgrade is it necessary ?

Oh how smart i thought I was when i bought my xps 13 ultrabook. It has an i7 its gunna be awesome for gaming i thought. This 1000 dollars im spending on a gaming laptop is totally worth it i thought.

Obviously i didn't realize how little i was going to be getting done with an Intell Hd 4000  NSFMR( edit: had wrong link http://www.videocardbenchmark.net/gpu.php?gpu=Intel+HD+4000 )

I don't know dick about computers still but I know I want an i5 and 4gb of vram (insert 3.5 joke here). Im going to build ( or pay someone to) the computer so my  knowledge on fans and whatever other shit you put in a computer is totally non existent.

My main goal is to have a computer I won't need to upgrade and be able to play on normal graphic settings as far as 7 years from now. Am i a dumbass?

I have been reading the builds on r/pcmr and the end all seems like what i want ( i5 4gb) here is pcpart picker link http://pcpartpicker.com/p/ryMRhM

I'm willing to spend 500-900 bucks on the computer itself but only if its worth it.

Main uses: gaming, gaming in vr(VIVE), some sfm, and i want quick launch times for my applications ( have no idea what part does that)

Please excuse my total ignorance on this subject, I want a nice computer but I refuse to settle with something like an ibuypower computer.

Thanks for any help

Thats a good system but it will most likley not work with the latest games at decent fps for 7 years ahead.

I seriously doubt OP will be playing at 4K with max settings. For that budget, turning down the settings to med/high @1080 will easily last him those 7 years with a 290.

Thanks for all the replies guys.

No I don't need mouse/keys or monitors, I have older stuff that I will upgrade after building but I have a tv and a decent monitor to hook into and a pretty decent wireless mouse and keyboard(logitech).

Yeah for the longevity thing pretty much as long as I can get 45+ frames on medium settings and not have objects render right before i collide into them I will be happy.

Well, he maybe could but if it is comng games like crysis 3 or battelfield 4 it may not handle it, but its a small upgrade to get it to last. He might have to upgrade the GPU or RAM.
