I bought the #1 sold power line adapter kit on Amazon. TP Link AV50P 4010. It was pretty good for a few months but now it's slower than wireless and cuts out every day. The house I'm in was built in 1995 and is two stories.

If I can't run ethernet which I should be able to, should I try power line again?

My computer is upstairs and the router is downstairs. I'm sure they're not on the same circuit but I don't see how they could ever be if you're in a large house like I am.

Run ethernet by any means necessary, even if it means running it through a window from the first floor to a window on the second floor

That's what my friends and I always do, no matter who's house we're at.

wow I didn't know people were that despirate. I just ran the wire through the walls the way you're supposed to, but that only is really feasible if you crimp the connectors on after the wire is run, and that takes practice.

None of our familys own the houses we live in, so that's not an option. We all rent our homes.

ohhh. that makes sense.

I have a few friends that use powerline ethernet(per my recommendation) with the AV200 nano, and they've all had good results.

We all buy either 50 foot or 100 foot ethernet cables and toss them in our LAN bags as we LAN quite often

1. Powerline isn't "faster" than wireless. It just tends to work over larger distances, which is wireless' greatest weakness

2. If it was cutting out then there might be an issue with your wiring. Also it can cut out if there's electrical noise (hairdryer, drills etc)

3. When I got sick of wireless' range and powerline's speed I ran Ethernet. So that would be my advice.

Also it's worth noting that in new houses it's pretty much standard to run Ethernet to every location they expect a TV or PC to live. If you look at the topics on this sub-forum and how many of them are about issues with powerline or wireless? You can understand why. Since I've wired up my house the only issue I had with my network is when I use some devices in one room where the wireless isn't great. It used to be a daily pain in the ass, I'm glad it isn't anymore
