First Mid-Range PC Build

As my first PC build, I am planning to build the PC listed below. I need to stay under 1200USD for the PC. I would like to use this computer for doing simple everyday tasks and will play some games such as Far Cry, Battlefield 3, Skyrim, etc.

Any feedback on this build would be great.

Breaking budget, but you get more advantage when DX12 comes out. The xeon's are I7's without overclocking so add that + hyper threading + DX12= more frames/etc

Your computer is like 1400$? You said under 1200?

I accidentally included the monitor. If you strip the monitor it should be under 1400

Why on earth would you include a Xeon? he'd be better off saving a crap tonne of money and getting an i5 with a 280X/970...

I doubt i will ever play on a 4k monitor or a multi monitor setup so that 8GB would be wasted. Especially since a 970 has almost equal performance or even greater than the r9 290X with a better power efficiency.

Do you plan on ever overclocking your CPU? if not the only thing I'd change with that build is go for 2X4GB sticks of RAM instead of 1X8GB

I doubt i will overclock my CPU. But even if I did want to, a Xeon processor seems a bit overkill. Could you explain that choice?

Thanks for the suggestion, I didnt realize I picked up one stick of 8GB instead of 2X4GB.

It is overkill, but its better to go dual channel instead of a single stick of RAM, you get about 10% improvement doing so.

Overall your list is great just the RAM change. And if you've got some money to spare, get a 250GB SSD so you could store a few of your most played games on it.

My reasoning for a xeon is DX12. It'll take advantage of hyperthreaded applications, so call it future proof. As for the R9, might as well incase you want to go higher res. or eyefinity in the future. Like I said before, future proofing.
