I have an AMD II x2 555 dual core running at 3.2GHz usually, now it's at 3.5GHz and it's looking stable. CPU temp is at 44-48° celsius while chrome is open on a few simple tabs, core is at 41 (temperatures for its unlocked quad core counterpart are a maximum of 5° celsius). If I unlock this to a quad core and keep it at 3.2GHz which I have done for the past 2 years I get a pretty good performance boost, 20FPS and more on DOTA2, on other games I haven't really kept count.

My question is should I unlock the CPU to a quad and maybe try to give it 100-200MHz (or even zero) OR keep lock it to a dual core and give it more MHz ? I highly doubt I can get 4GHz since I'm running a stock cooler and I have tried overclocking it even with 100MHz at times and it just crashed and temperatures are not really a problem, maximum is 66°-69° running prime95, a bit high BUT not the reason for the instability I think, so I don't think an aftermarket cooler is due.

Why not try to make it a quad core?
