In billions or

Gotcha. So the 8350 has about 25% less single threaded performance and has well has what? Like 50%?

I have a PDF from my college level hardware class you can look over if you want. I'll see if I can post it tomorrow. It is 4 am here and it isn't on this computer. Speaking of which I need to go pass out. Take it easy.

Cool. That may help. Have crazy dreams. I hope I'm in them.

No, they're at difference clock speeds. And that's 8 Bulldozer cores versus 4 Haswell cores (Sandra Whetstone and Dhrystone are multi-threaded).

1100T: 6 cores at 3.2GHz: 19.2 billion cycles 8350: 8 cores at 4.0GHz: 32.0 billion cycles3570K: 4 cores at 3.8GHz: 15.2 billion cycles2500K: 4 cores at 3.7GHz: 14.8 billion cycles 870: 4 cores at 2.93GHz: 11.72 billion cycles* 920: 4 cores at 2.66GHz: 10.64 billion cycles*Q6600: 4 cores at 2.40GHZ: 09.60 billion cyclesThus total cycle adjusted:Sandra Whetstone: (FPU GFLOPS)1100T: 3.02 8350: 2.313570K: 6.252500K: 3.24 870: 5.20* 920: 5.92*Q6600: 2.92Sandra Dhrystone: (ALU GFLOPS)1100T: 3.85 8350: 3.563570K: 8.302500K: 5.67 870: 6.48* 920: 6.67*Q6600: 4.08
Ivy Bridge has 2.7 times the IPC of the 8350 in floating point workloads and 2.33 times the IPC of the 8350 in integer workloads. These numbers are largely worthless, though, as seen by the huge difference shown between Ivy and Sandy Bridge (it's much smaller when comparing 3770K to 2600K). In reality, the FPU score comes down to AVX+SSE extensions and are not really indicative of real-world performance. It's best to compare regardless of clock speed.

* I don't know the 4-core turbo burst of these processors. Please enlighten.

8350: 8 cores at 4GHz: 32 billion cycles.

3570K: 4 cores at 3.8GHz (IIRC): 15.2 billion cycles

So total cycle adjusted:

Sandra Whetstone: (FPU GFLOPS) 8350: 2.31 vs. 3570k : 6.25

Sandra Dhrystone: (ALU GIPS) 8350 : 3.56 and 3570k : 8.30

Ivy Bridge has 270% higher IPC in floating point workloads and 233% higher IPC in integer workloads.

What does that put haswell at over the 8350? Or even arrandale over bulldozer??

I don't know, probably not much better off. I suspect Arrandale is higher IPC than bulldozer but it's no longer important.

When my PC is built, I'm getting excel and I'm going to consolidate statistics on all the CPUs I can find. Just for fun.
