Quest for RAID

Go to solution Solved by saya_kucing,

So, I think I need to apologize.  You were having a similar issue as someone else, and I think I got you two confused.

When you are attempting to install, was it just not giving you any hard drive options?  Or was the install failing at some point?

When I was trying the fresh install from the optical drive, it was giving me that windows boot screen of washed colours and not responding.

The HDD  clone mustn't have worked due to windows copyright protection.

I tried resetting all mobo setting to default, and in the end figured out it was do to with the Aggressive Link Power Management setting was enabled - causing problems with the optical drive and was able to boot from that.

All in all, the system was down for 2 days - and I apologise for my frustration. I kept trying for help where those posts weren't getting any views - let alone answers.

Ta,

saya

I'm attempting to RAID 0 two SSDs on my x99 Deluxe platform.

I made a clone of my operating disk before I put them into RAID through the onboard Intel controller, however this clone is not bootable...

Not sure what happened there...

Anyway, at the moment I'm trying a fresh install onto my RAID 0, although I'm getting the windows installation disk not work amazingly. (photos attached).

It should be noted that I'm using a second-hand and somewhat questionable optical drive to boot from.

I'm pretty sure I'm on the right track (RAID array seems fine) - I think it's just the windows installation that's holding me up.

Any ideas on what I can do to get around this?

It's my main rig I'm trying to RAID and it can't be offline for too long...

Cheers,

saya.

Since the HDD held the clone of my operating disk, the plan was to boot up into that and then clone it back over to the array.

The HDD clone is not booting (probably due to it not being a bootable version of windows due to copyright protocol in place?), so the alternative was to fresh install from the optical disk.

What program or tool did you use to clone the OS drive?  When you say you cloned the operating disk, do you mean your windows cd, or your HDD that had windows installed on it?

You may simply need to use your Windows install disk to repair the boot partition on the clone, but more info is needed on your method and process.

One thing you can try, which I have had to do before, is install a clean copy of windows onto the raid volume you want.  Then try to put the clone on it.  Sometimes the software doesn't recognize raids correctly.  Otherwise, I got no clue for your situation.

I assume you have the raid set as one of your boot options in the bios?

REALLY

You're obviously not understanding what I'm trying to tell you.

Never mind, I've waited too long for answers that just aren't coming on this forum.

I really don't know what you were expecting.

Your entire description of the problem was "cloned os, won't work now".  That is all the information you gave.
