Windows constant updates

Hi Guys

 

So me and my girlfriend have had to do a windows update almost every day for the last 3 weeks. No idea why, i've since lost patience and turned off automatic updates but I was curious to know if anybody else was having this and if anybody else knows what the updates are for?

After you update, does Windows ask you to restart?  When you have updated, do you perform an additional update check?  If this is a new Windows install, it is highly possible that not all the updates were downloaded and installed.  There are sometimes prerequisite updates that need to be installed before additional ones become available.

Its not a new install, this install has been up for around 2 years. And yeah everytime I shut down its another 20 updates. I dont do a manual check but the next time i come to shut down its again another 10-20 updates.

It happens to me also, it's annoying.  Linux ftw.  Even though I'm still kind of a noob with Linux.  Haha.

That's very odd.  Is this on a laptop, or is this a desktop that you built yourself?  Are you running any antivirus software particularly real-time protection and/or firewall?  It's possible that whatever you're using is preventing Windows from installing them properly.  Check your update history and see if any of those updates failed.  If they're not installing, they should be marked as "Failed".

Just checked, most of these have been successful, looking down the history, the only ones that have failed have been involved with Word 2010 which I've since uninstalled. However, these problems started way before I installed Word 2010.

Oh, so this is happening on two separate computers?  Maybe try a fresh install on both systems using an ISO.  Does it ever appear as though you are being asked to install the same updates over and over again?

I was just going to post that. Those are an every day type update. There has alos lately been a push of a few minor updates due to some vulnerabilities.

Yes it would. Just noticed I couldn't see the screen shot of the updates if the OP posted a few posts back.
