So currently, I have an Intel Core i3 2120 3.3 ghz CPU. I am planning to get a R9 270x graphics card, and according to several reviews, it is very good. So I was wondering, would having an i3 2120 decrease the performance of the r9 270x? Will they even support each other? Please answer in full detail please. Thanks. Here's my current PC:

- i3 2120 3.3 ghz

- amd HD 6670 2gb

- 6GB DDR3 1333mhz RAM

- corsair vs 450w PSU

Some games may use 100% of your cores and produce stutters, and some games won't at all and you'll get full performance.

Either way, it's a great performer.

Maximums - Asus Z97-K /w i5 4690 Bclk @106.9Mhz * x39 = 4.17Ghz, 8GB of 2600Mhz DDR3,.. Gigabyte GTX970 G1-Gaming @ 1550Mhz

It'll bottleneck in more intensive games. Might be worth it to look into an i5-2500 since you can find them on eBay for $100 or less. Otherwise save up your pennies for a platform upgrade after you get settled in with the R9 270X.

Also just noting, the R9 270 and R9 270X are the exact same at different clock speeds with different power limits (although rarely any significant difference in practice)... so if you can save some money by getting an R9 270 instead of an R9 270X, I'd suggest doing that and putting the money saved towards a CPU (or CPU & mobo) upgrade.

Your CPU is okay, ill more concern of your PSU and RAM.

it's a good match and they should offer acceptebale performance in most modern games.

Only when the CPU is FULLY 100% across all cores would you notice a dip in performance,..

This is purely game dependent.

Many reviews are out there for i3's and how games perform on them.

True, but most of the time the R9 270 will tap-out at medium settings anyways...and you aint gonna game at 60FPS that's for sure...you run medium/lowish settings at 35-45FPS on that and you're happy about it..

270x or 270 which best for my PC .one more thing I am useing 768p monitor

R9-270 (nonX) will suffice for 768p VERY easily.

Maximums - Asus Z97-K /w i5 4690 Bclk @106.9Mhz * x39 = 4.17Ghz, 8GB of 2600Mhz DDR3,.. Gigabyte GTX970 G1-Gaming @ 1550Mhz

Can i play new game in ultra with 270?

Yes and totally NO

If you don't use Antialiasing and performance degrading features, yes.1080p is easy to drive using the R9-270.

Using 1366x768, you could use Antialiasing and heavier feature sets.

My 270 ran Farcry4 on Ultra 1080p /w SMAA and had 33-35fps minimum.

Lowering to Medium-High enabled me to maintain 50fps.

Other games will be worse, some better.

Think of it like this..

Ultra spec games will run around 30-40fps.

A mix of Medium-High spec games should hopefully run around 45-60fps, again,.. some have to be set lower to maintain 60fps.

^All games vary, this would be more of a rough esitimate

If he's playing at 1366x768 the R9 270 will handle anti-aliasing no problem. The only settings he'll want to avoid are the ones that put a lot of load on the CPU like HBAO, shadows (in some games, depending on their engine) and effects.

I disregarded the resolution he's using when making my reply... and based it off 1080p. (Should have clarified that)

Look at my specs, and my system runs great!

Follow my link and you'll see the game play performance. Minimal bottlenecks here! :D
