So here's the link to the current build. I was going for a 2500 U.S. dollar price point. The machine will be used heavily, a lot of programming and gaming. I went with the x99 board so I could stick to the newest hardware, since I'm investing so much into it, I'd like it to have as much room for future improvement as possible, without completely throwing out the board or CPU. It will be using a triple 1920x1080 monitor set up, of which only one will be used to play games.

Anybody have any suggestions, or notice any gaping flaws with the build? Any help would be appreciated as this would be the first time I'm building a PC from the ground up from scratch.

4 way TitanX SLI for your 1080p monitor :P  theres a gaping flaw :)

I don't really think theres a way to preserve the mobo as 2011-3 is likely to be used once.  and LGA 1150 is also not compatible with Skylake.

I don't know anything about the workload, but a CPU like a simple 4790K or the Xeon E3-1231 V3 may be sufficient for whatever you do in programming...  I could be wrong though.  If future proofing is your goal, it's achieved beyond the lacking "4 GB of VRAM on the 980"

For the Best builds and Price lists here is a world where many points of the price have been predefined already for your convenience!

The Xeon E3 1231 V3 IS BETTER Than the Core i5 4690K and a Significantly better value for the non-overclockers or value shoppers.

Well, it gets a thumbs up from me. But yeah it's really overkill, virtually anything can program and X99 doesn't really offer any benefit for gaming, but you did state your reasons so I'll leave it at that.

CPU: i5-4690k GPU: 280x Toxic PSU: Coolermaster V750 Motherboard: Z97X-SOC RAM: Ripjaws 1x8 1600mhz Case: Corsair 750D HDD: WD Blue 1TB

The 4gb VRAM issue was for the 970, not the 980?

The issue is indeed with the 970.  No other card has such an issue that I know of.

Yeah, so why are you commenting on the "lacking" 980, it's probably the most "futureproof" card you can get right now

Right ideally, this PC will last me through whatever I wanted to do. How far do you think I could push the display to? I don't think that it could handle 4k, but 1440 should be solid right?

You won't really need to push the display In my opinion.  triple 1080p is good enough, though if you want you could have two 970s and connect 6 1080p monitors :P  or a splitter for the 980.
