Epic Derp Moment...please help

Go to solution Solved by whatthe_fuzz,

fixed it! display port cable and i was good to go!

my u2713hm just came in. I just got off working a double and all I want to do is game at 1440p finally. so I set everything up plug it in with the supplied dvi cable. and bam. stuck at the "recommended" 1080p. just installed the newest catalyst drivers. even flashed the stock bios back onto my card. I have the DCUII TOP 7970 and im pretty sure I have it on the right bios switch (when installed its the switch position towards the pcie brackets) and I know I have it in the right dvi port.

the only weird thing that has happened is that when I install the u2713hm drivers it IMMEDIATELY tells me they have successfully installed. no progress bar just immediate results.

1080p is a cruel joke right now....please help.

is the dvi dual link or single link?

it needs to be dual link for anything above 1920x1200

It's probably somewhere in the Catalyst software. I haven't used an ATI/AMD card in like 8 years so I can't help you there. If it's the supplied DVI cable, it's gotta be dual link, unless Dell screwed up. Have you tried the other DVI port to be sure?

I stated this in the other thread but it got erased to the the server crash. Even if it's a single-link cable it would still allow you to choose 1440p resolution only it would have abnormal colors.

Never install monitor drivers now days it just screw with your color profiles. I would try a different cable possibly or try a different input like HDMI or DP if you have those.

Did you get a Display Port cable with the monitor? Try that if you did.

HDMI doesn't support 1440P.

Sure it does as long as you monitor and video card have the correct revision. http://goo.gl/ETQpD

Ah I didn't know that. I was always told to get Display Port or DVI. I will try a hdmi cable so. My monitor and gpu support hdmi 1.4. Just have to make sure I have a 1.4v cable.

no the HDMI committee did away with rating cable by specification (as best they could) because that doesnt mean diddly as there is 0 electronics in the cable. All there is now is standard and high speed and all they specify really is the gauge of the cable. Youll need High Speed. You may be asking why, this is because its needed for 1080p or better. Basically the more data you want HDMI to carry the thicker gauge cable it needs (this is one advantage DP has over HDMI it can carry more data with the same gauge or even thinner cable). This may be changing with HDMI 2.0 but thats been in the pipeline for a while I really hope DisplayPort at least on the PC front takes over by the time its finalized.

If you need cheap good HDMI cable check out Monoprice if theyll ship to you http://goo.gl/cO4ST
