How ShareON exactly works? How it make file transfer possible between iOS and Android?

It seems to be the first app that allow file transfer between iOS and android. It doesn't mention it uses WiFi direct or Bluetooth, but a vague 'direct connection between devices'. It did mention about dlna, but I thought it requires WiFi network? This app seems to work with just 2 devices only.
