HDMI Adapter causes static?

I made a thread here about static on youtube videos http://linustechtips.com/main/topic/320898-static-on-youtube-videos/and I figured it out

 

When I'm getting static, I unplug my HDMI to VGA adapter and replug it in and it fixes it

 

My headphones are plugged into my 3.5 mm jack, so why does it do this? and any ideas on how to remove the issue?

 

edit: forgot to mention this method used to work, but now the static only goes away for a few minutes and I have to do it again

Try changing the adapter.  If you have any DVI ports, you can also try an HDMI to DVI cable.
