memory QVL

hi, can I buy x4 single kits and it will work on mobo ? or should I save and buy x4 kit ? QVL shows no support for single kit but shows support only for x2 and x4 kits ? is there a firmware or pcb version difference ? I ask because on my current mobo I tried upgrading with different kits and the mobo didn't turn on the kit was corsair xms 1333mhz 5,12 and tried to upgrade with another xms 1333 same cl and all but different version maybe 2.12 or 8.12 so I had to return it and am using 4gb U.C 1104mhz

When i'm not playing PC games i'm playing with my PC parts  Fans,Pumps,Filters,  :wub:  :wub:  :wub:
