can some one please help me with an internet connection "puzzle"

i got a motherboard with a 10/100 lan connection, a gigabit pci board, a wireless N router and a gigabit internet connection

right now its connected like: gigabit internet -> router -> my pc with cable connection and wireless connection to the rest of devices in my home

(but my router bottlenecks my internet speed)

so i wanna go like: gigabit internet -> my pc in my gigabit pci board -> my motherboard lan -> router -> rest of my wireless devices

i dont know how to make my pc recive internet connection on a board and output the connection from the other board

can some one please help me how to do that :D

you could achieve that by bridging the connection between the 1gig card and 10/100 card in your pc and then having the 10/100 card connect to the router but you do know you have to keep your computer on 24/7 if you want wireless to work

you may not be able to do this in this way.

It would depend on how the ISP handles the authentication on the line, are they using pppoa or pppoe?, if this is the case then you would need some kind of software to handle this, something like PFsense.

what is the connection that comes in from the provider, is it a rj45 or rj11 ?

the reason that the bridge didn't work is cause there is nothing on the windows box that I know of that will handle that ppp authenticated session.

What is it about the modem that is the bottleneck, the 10/100 switch ?

you would be cheaper buying a new router that can handle this for you.

its max bandwith speed is 150mb and my internet connection is gigabit :P

and it not that cheap ... my router that i use now its cheap @ 20$ and a good one its @ 80$ (and when u think that in the country that i work i get pay like @ 250$ its quite sad :P)

if your modem is not capable of doing the speed that the provider has supplied then call them to replace it. if it is the wireless router then replace it. not much else you can do, if the devices you own do not do the speed then all you can do is replace it.

would help to have bit more detailed diagram such as

service level: 1000Mbps

modem:150Mbps?

router throughput: 10/100/1000? 10/100?

if you do not have a modem and the isp just said "plug your crap into this wire" then your router needs to have the capability to do gigabit. Even if you bridge the connection and it works the rest of the network is still limited by the router afterwards the network is only as fast as the connecting points between it. So:

if you have 1000Mbps cable hooked to a 1000Mbps lan card you get 1000Mbps link, if that is then pluged into a 100Mbps switch which hooks up 4 more PC's then all of those pc's will only get 100Mbps links.

The only way to fix this is to replace the slowest part that connects all of the devices. Unless you want just your pc to have the gigabit and screw the rest of the network.
