GPU Upgrade recomendation

Go to solution Solved by sgloux3470,

a 290x is about $250

Add another $100 onto that and you might be right.

This is cheaper and performs the same.  For what you want to do this seems to make more sense.

I'm getting a ASUS VG248QE 144Hz and want to upgrade from my GTX 550ti to a new GPU so that it can run beyond 144 fps playing Leauge of Legends whilst streaming. (Playing at a 1920x1080) I've been keeping an eye on the GTX 960 because my GTX260 is still doing very well at running league. I also occasionally play games but the only higher graphic game is assassin's creed (i don't mind playing that at like 30fps). Is there a more suitable card for my case?

get the 960, you wont be disappointed. I have the 970 and its great, the architecture is really good for overclocking, I got mine to have a 1500mhz clock speed with no throttling or and artifacts etc... I plan on getting a 960 soon for my guest computer and I don't think i will be disappointed.

Rose's are red violets are blue, without computers I'd know not what to do.

I can tell you the 280x is strictly better than the 960, and priced around their, but its a great option for League of Legends if you want to go the nVidia route.

It's not a super demanding game (ran it 1024x720 or whatever) at 30fps on a CPU from 2007 (intel core duo from parents work computer).

It's $280 ($30 more than you said) with a $30 mail in rebate from the cheapest brand on the market.  Most 290x's are sitting around $350.
