Hi all.

I'm a first time PC builder. The main purpose of this PC is to be a Gaming build.

Build:

CPU: AMD FX-8350

CPU Cooler: CM Hyper 212 Evo

GPU: MSI 4GB R9 290

Mobo: MSI 970 Gaming

RAM: 8GB 1600mhz

HDD: 1TB 7200rpm WD Standard

Case: NZXT Source 530 Full Tower

PSU: EVGA 850w Fully Modular

If you need anymore info, let me know.

Let me know what you think of my build, about half of the parts have been bought so I'm quite excited about it, just looking for some advice because I still have some room to adapt and change here because I do not yet have the Motherboard, CPU or GPU. This is on a budget though so please do not reply to me recommending a GTX980 and an Extreme i7 or anything like that. Let me know how you think this PC will perform on some of the top games right now and recommend me some changes to this build if you want to! Some possible upgrades in the future include more RAM, overclocking and an SSD.

Thanks for reading.

Get a cheaper PSU (650w will be plenty if you get a decent one) and use the extra cash for an SSD to put your OS on.

Thanks insayan, again I wanted to make this build upgrade proof. I want to be able to add things to this and not have to worry about power or space or anything like that. I may have gone overkill again though yes, but I'm a first time builder so I'm allowed to make mistakes, lol!

The power supply isn't the best and the case isn't necessary. A mid tower would do just fine. Or a good full tower is the enthoo pro.PCPartPicker part list / Price breakdown by merchant

It'll still be future proof, new hardware is becoming more and more energy efficient. I'd only go with 850W PSU if I'd plan a crossfire/sli build with OC'ing.

Go for it, I dont see anything that is Bad, The 850 watt PSU is overkill, Even if you go with another GTX 970 in SLI.
But there is no real downside to having a 850 watt PSU.

Yes because a FX can totally handle two 970 :/

Not on AM3+ hes not :P Why not go with a Z97 board and a cheap intel and upgrade from that?

Who would be gaming on the same CPU for a entire life?

He'd have to upgrade his motherboard as well. You either build a budget computer with high end parts that are about to be updated or go balls to the wall and have something that can be futureproof, it's hard to have both.

It is about preference, Some simply prefer AMD, Sentimental value.

Yup, But All motherboards will go obsolete, It is only a question about time.

Everyone is telling me about how my case and PSU choices are overkill. I have already bought both the case and PSU. There is not really a downside to having a case that is too big or power left over (for me). I want to know if collectively this is a good build for mainly gaming, and how it will perform as a whole. Lets focus on some positives instead of repetition :-).

It will handle everything you throw at it, Pretty much the only games that wouldnt perform as good on AMD are Indies.

By the time those will need an upgrade his psu will be at the right side of the performance bell curve anyways, it wouldn't make sense getting a psu now that's pretty much twice as powerful as needed.

Reminder that this is a starting budget build, that could go so much further in the future. This is just a starting point for me. This will be the first computer that I have built. I have been told that the CPU and GPU that I have chosen are excellent 'bang for buck' choices. Not 100% sure about the Motherboard, though.

The MSI 970 Gaming is a good board, You will also be able to overclock on it, Just dont expect to break any world records on it.
