building home server / email server

hello need elp what would be good for a home server (free nas) and a email server.

should i use two systems or have one that does all of it this is were iam confused i want to run free nas but how do i do it if  i wanted a email server 

my budget is around 200-900 usd

I successfully run a ftp+http+mail server on a intel atom with 1GB of RAM on a gigabit ethernet. Depending on what you need, not much horsepower is needed.
