Hi,

I have a really confusing problem. Windows is not seeing my 2 new SSDs at all (includes DiskManagement). I wanted to set them up as a RAID 0 for booting.

On the other hand, when booting from a Ubuntu live DVD I can format does drives and create a partion on them and mount them afterwards. Still f***ing Windows says no.

I know that my motherboard is capable of a RAID 0 as I have one currently running.

If anyone has an idea what to do I'd be very thankful.

System Data:
ROG Crosshair V Formula Z

1 Samsung 830Pro 128GB Boot drive

2 WD Blue 1TB in RAID 0

Which ports do you have them plugged into? the ASUS website says you have 2 controllers 1 with 6 ports that does RAID and one with 2 ports that doesn't, if you have the SSDs on the second controller and no drivers installed for that controller maybe?

are you RAIDing them from within windows or pre-boot?

All drives except the current boot drive are plugged in the AMD Sataports. They are configured as RAID in the preboot utility

I am not sure whether you can set two different RAID types within the same chipset. To refer to the user manual I would gess that you can set up a RAID with four or six drives but for my understananding those drives have to be the same size.

To solve your problem I would try to set the UEFI to RAID mode for SATA ports 1-4 and leave 5-6 as it is default. Plug the new 2 SSDs into SATA ports 1-4 and set them as a RAID and then you plug the HDDs into port 5-6 or 7-8 (ASMedia Controller) and set them up through integrated RAID-Setup.

Before you are going to install windows you have to install the Drivers for you RAID array within Windows installation.

....And before you start you obviously have to backup your existing data from the current RAID array.

After you have installed Windows you can set the drives which are plugged in into SATA port 5-6 as a stripset (that is how Windows calls a RAID array) which is basically a software RAID mode within Windows and works pretty fine as far as I can tell. Therefore your existing data will be destroyed and that is where the backup comes in...

After you did this, you will have two RAID arrays. The bootable RAID array with windows on it and the software RAID where you have your data saved.

Greetings from Germany, also.

@Beltboy yes

@Capone I created to seperated RAIDs in the pre-bios utiliity and it shows them as functional. I also tried unplugging the HDDs and using only the SSDs, but that did not change anything.

Your solution would be alright if i could get the SSDs to work.

So what you already have is 1 SSD with Windows on it, 2 HDDs with DATA and 2 new SSDs where Windows should be installed on?

The new SSDs are plugged in SATA 3/4 according to the manual and the 2 HDDs in 5/6

I think you have to unplug the current SSD where Windows is installed on and then you should install Windows onto the SSD RAID array but as I have already mentioned you have to install the RAID drivers within Windows installation.

If the RAID drivers are not installed it might be possible that you will not find the SSD RAID array listed in the installation drives option...

I have a different solution now:
Silverstone EC05 PCIe card

Silverstone Support said it should work natively

I'll post an update in a few date when it arrives
