Can somebody help? So my little sister recently got a Trojan Horse Virus on my laptop. I currently have McAffee and Malwarebytes Anti-Malware on my laptop. Neither can remove it and it keeps downloading programs on to the PC. I have managed to uninstall all but on, removed all the files relating to the unwanted programs that i know of. But all my search engines that i use are just littered with Pop-ups and Ads everywhere. I have went through every setting and every file that I know of to try and remove it but nothing helped. Any suggestions or ideas? Help would be so much appreciated!

Get rid of McAfee and keep malwarebytes, unplug the PC from the network and best to boot the OS into safe mode, then run a full system scan with Malware Bytes and this should help it find and quarantine it, then you can delete it then, if that doesn't work then download an avast offline installer to a USB and install avast onto the PC and do that same, avast is normally pretty good :)

also go into the system config utility and deselect suspect apps.

disable system restore before doing any scans ( the safe mode thing is good ).

check your windows firewall and kill apps there.

get a toolbar cleaner off the web and stop installing toolbars. you don't need them even if the apps you're installing say you do.

Try Firefox and get some anti adware apps..........tools/addons/get addons..... look for security stuff.

uninstall and reinstall.. ( steam ).

what fixed it?

I ran the computer in safe mode than I had Bitdefender do a complete can and it removed everything. No more ads, clean as a whistle. I have uninstalled Steam and reinstalled it but that did not solve it. It is all messed up somehow. It just keeps saying cannot connect to Steam servers. I cant contact customer support because i have to log in on their website to do that. It will let me log in on the site but then you have to login again to contact them and then it wont login when i try to do that. It is really strange. I can also login on my phone on the Steam app just fine. so it has to be the computer. i plan on trying a different computer soon.

It updated just fine, and I have even tried completely removing all security programs to get on steam. Nothing worked. I have created a new account and it wouldn't let me log into that one either. Have not tried in safe mode yet. Steam worked just fine before the virus so idk.

Try opening a command prompt and type ipconfig /flushdns  it could be the virus poisoned your dns cache. also check your IP isn't static.

Ok I did the command prompt, how do i check to see if my ip is static? Edit: I figured it out, I have a dynamic ip, I will be trying steam again tomorrow. I was able to log in on a friends computer so at least I know now that is just something on this pc.
