So it seems Khronos is taking a step up and creating a brand new API by the name of "Vulkan" to compete against DirectX12. It's in its very early stages, so there's not much news on it, but from the looks it could be pretty awesome. Digging deeper, I found out that it should support hardware from OpenGL 3.1 ES and on. The API goes kind of by the same goals as Mantle and DirectX12. It's claimed, so far, to have better multi-threading.
