I've been shopping for parts to build a new PC and the price came out to be a  little over $2 grand. I am totally capable of paying for it, but am I paying too much?

That computer will do everything you want it to do. Memory is a tad expensive but I'm not sure of the current rates per gb.

You could probs shop around buy from different sites and get it cheaper but yeah that will do everything ultra-high 60fps no problem.

Can I ask some questions?

You have changed the GPU from AMD to Nvidia? Why? Maybe he was in support of AMD's more unshady business dealings?

You also changed the PSU from a corsair one to an EVGA One, Changed the SSD Brand and the Mobo you picked does not have the shielding on it which might have been a cosmetic difference that he wanted.

Given that OP was asking "am I overpaying?":

  1. I don't care. SLI 970 is stronger than CF 290. I'm pointing out what's best; if OP doesn't want it, he deserves to at least know that he's not getting the best he can.
  2. EVGA rulez. SSDs perform just about the same for his needs (with the exception of the infamous v300...). Mobo IS overpaying, just as he asked me.

Depends. Are you wanting to OC alot? I will always recommend the Corsair H* Series or the NZXT Water cooling solutions.

Actually I'm not planning to overclock and I think I might go with a SwiftTech H220x for the cooler.

Are you 100% sure of that?

If yes, then get this CPU (also, don't get the cooler): https://pcpartpicker.com/part/intel-cpu-bx80646e31230v3

Does anyone have any monitor suggestions?

The standard recommendation is this: https://pcpartpicker.com/part/benq-monitor-gw2765ht

HOWEVER, if you'd like a smaller monitor, you can get this25" 1440p monitor. Yay for high pixel density: https://pcpartpicker.com/part/dell-monitor-u2515h

I think the smaller one might be the better choice

Would an LG 21:9 monitor work?

Well.... it WOULD work, but I wouldn't recommend it.

For starters, not all games have good support for 21:9. Stretching is a major concern.

Second, you are basically getting a 1080p monitor, and I really believe that if one is buying a new display with a powerful GPU, he should go straight to 1440p.

Third, you end up getting a smaller area monitor. Due to the way the screen is measured, you need a much bigger size of monitor to achieve the same feeling of view. And don't forget, you are paying premium for that.

21:9 has great applications for work / cinema builds, but for gaming, it's just not worth it (imo).
