I have recently acquired an Asus n66u.

I have my modem plugged into the router with A 5e cable.

from the router I have A powerline adapter plugged in.

finally I have my computer plugged into another powerline adapter. My internet speed when plugged directly into the modem, is 100 Mbps. when routed through the power line and router, I get a down of 42 Mbps.I cannot plug the modem directly to the power line because it will not work. the cables powerlines and router , all support more than 100 Mbps.

I thank you for bearing with my speech to text and I appreciate any feedback on how to utilize my internet speed. Thanks

Bull or marketing, call it what you wish. This is how AV500 gear actually performs....

homeplug_av_500_roundup_throughput_v_loc

A= same room, C = a few rooms over, E = other side of the house

You're getting 42Mbps? That's not particularly surprising.

Would a hardware adapter switch work? If it were plugged into the modem.

Or is there a better way to get faster speed.

No, that won't work at all. If you want better speed your three options are:

1. Try to improve performance by reducing the distance between the two points and plugging the adapters directly into the wall sockets

2. If that fails try wireless, it may be faster especially if it's an issue with your wiring. AC1200 should be if you're close enough

3. Last resort, run Ethernet. I'd strongly suggest against doing anything permanent yourself, but along the floor? If it's feasible that's the best option

Given it doesn't require new gear work on the first one first and see if that solves the problem. It might be as simple as taking the powerline adapter and plugging it into the wall rather than into a powerboard. Or plugging it into a different outlet.
