Good day guys,

So I got this 4 year old iPhone 4 that is starting to show its age and I want to upgrade to a Windows Phone. I've always been an iPhone user and not much of a phone enthusiast so I know very little about the mobile market and thats why I'm coming here for help. I got a $600-$650 budget.

*It seems Windows Phones are'nt popular specially after seeing linus' video on Windows Phones. I'm now looking for a Smartphone around the same budget ($600-$650)

I'd just go android, from the last windows phone review linus did, I think he discovered that windows phone is still lacking in the apps department. no official youtube app, scams when he tried to download swiftkey. everyone I know that's used windows phone ended hating it because they couldn't find the apps they wanted to use.

From haveing owned an iphone 4 to a galaxy s4 to an Iphone 5s to a Iphone 6 Plus I can tell you now the Windows phone that i use for work is just about worthless its the HTC beats edition and it is awe full. Trying to find simple thing like set up email or change simple phone setting is a 30 min task.  also there is no apps I tryed to get google maps on it so I didnt have to pull out my Iphone when i needed to find a location of a job and its nothing but 3ed party bloat ware apps that essentially do nothing. zJust get an android or another i phone and save your self the head ake.

Well you don't want to get a phone with less than a gig of ram. It will be frustrating to use.

A Moto X is pretty decent, or the old HTC One or nexus 5.

A person I knew, bought an s3, complained it was laggy, then went on to buy a 5s and just says android is shit now. Cheeped out on an Android phone, then spent 2x that on a shitty iPhone. Amazing Logic.

I'd get the OnePlus One, it's amazing value for what it is , £290 for 64GB, 3100mAh, 3GB of ram, 1080p screen, cyanogenmod(better than stock android imo), rooting doesn't void the warranty, 13.1MP rear, 5MP front camera, true 4k video recording, 120FPS slow mo.

not much of a phone enthusiast

Don't let Linus review fool you. He clearly explain that there's a market for Windows Phone but phone enthusiast ain't one. He's deeply into Google's ecosystem which is totally lacking on WP so...

Personnally I got one and it does the job. It's a cheap one though so maybe at 600$ your expectations would be higher... But for emails, texting calling, netflix, Plex, running, Youtube, it's great. Actually, the non-official Youtube app is way better than the iOS or Android version. Anyway that's pretty much all I do with my phone.

Thanks for your recommendations and advices but I ultimately just got a Lumia 830 at $440.

I reflected a bit and realized that I'm not really into the mobile theater since I rarely use Apps outside of the Basic ones such as Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram. I also almost never play any mobile games so a big hardware would go wasted. I do however like taking photos now and then so a good camera was a factor and as far as I researched it, the Lumia 830 had a nice camera with the Nokia Camera App installed.

So far I like this Phone, its snappy, takes good photos and Cortana has been a delight to speak with. =)
