Gaming Build

skaran27

Overall I don't see much wrong. I think you're PSU is a bit on the high side unless you intend to SLI that 980 in the future. Otherwise a good 750 watt PSU is plenty for a single GPU system. Also I'd go with Windows 8.1 over Windows 7

more features, better OC capability. stuff like that. given the amount your putting into this, i would get the lastest generation of that chipset. #justmy2cent

Tell me how you guys feel about this build and if there is anything you guys would change. Going for a gaming build that can play any game at ultra settings.

Asus MAXIMUS VII HERO is the Z97 version of the Hero motherboard.

Mushkin Blackline 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR3-1600 Memory, G.Skill Sniper Gaming Series 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR3-1866 Memory, G.Skill Ripjaws X Series 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR3-1866 Memory, and

Kingston Fury Black Series 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR3-1866 Memory would all look better in the build, are less expensive, and will have no noticeable performance difference.

EVGA 220-G2-0850-XR is a much better value. It is as good as the AX860 and less expensive.

Is there a particular feature in Windows 7 Ulitmate that is needed? If not, go with Microsoft Windows 8.1 (OEM) (64-bit). It will have a longer useful supported lifetime.

80+ ratings certify electrical efficiency. Not quality.

Looks good. You could go for the 750W G2, EVGA 220-G2-0750-XR.

Why Windows 8.1 Professional?

Don't you get more features with 8.1 Professional?

You get a couple more features. But many are not useful outside of an enterprise environment. http://windows.microsoft.com/en-ca/windows/compare is a simple feature grid. http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/enterprise/products-and-technologies/windows-8-1/compare/default.aspx lists all the differneces.
