I heard static can destroy your pc parts and reduce its life span. I saw people touch metal before they built they computer. When do you touch metal. Once and your done? Keep doing it every 5 minutes? I saw a product called the anti static band for $5 on Amazon that deletes static. What did you do when you built your computer?

I used to just ground myself on some metal, but having an antistatic band is a good idea if you handle PC components frequently. I attach it to my ankle and a bit of grounded metal.

Avoid building on carpets, or with clothes that generate a lot of static when you move around. If you're unsure, just keep on touching a bit of metal every now and then to make sure.

touch a radiator in your house or anything big metalic thing, if you don't get zapped once in a while you shouldn't have problems

You can ground yourself by touching a metal or by wearing anti-static wrist / ankle strap.

Touch tons of grounded metal, put newspaper down, take your socks off, take your fleece off

Actually, build your computer naked.

That's literally the best way to do it.

well said. Especially the naked part

I find touching a plugged in power supply to the easiest/most reliable for me. It's easy as you're already working with computers and knowing I've grounded via the same grounding as my house wiring is reassuring. There's generally no need to continuously discharge unless you run around on carpet with socks.

THESE ARE THE WAYS HOW YOU CAN AVOID STATIC:-

1) DO NOT WORK ON CARPETING.

2) YOU SHOULD BE ON THE SAME ELECTRICAL LEVEL AS THE PC, SO JUST TOUCH THE METAL CASE OF THE PC FOR A FEW SECONDS.

3) TRY YOUR LEVEL BEST TO WORK ON A CERAMIC COUNTER(BIG NO NO  FOR METAL!!!)

4) NEVER EVER TRY TO USE STATIC WRIST BAND OR ANY OTHER BULLSHIT....YOU DONT WANT TO BE GROUNDED...AS I SAID BEFORE, SAME ELECTRICAL LEVEL!!

5) DONT TOUCH THE CIRCUIT BOARD PARTS....YOU WANNA AVOID TOUCHING ANY OF THOSE...JUST USE THE PLASTIC TO HOLD THEM.(GPU'S CPU'S, RAM)

CHECK OUT  THIS GUY...HE IS AMAZING IN THESE SORTA STUFFS!!
