So after years of purchasing a pre built computer from future shop, my brother started experience random freezes that would force him to restart the computer several times (between 1 - 5 times) for it fully work.

The computer normally boots up the window (8.1) up to required password and either freezes than or freezes few seconds after loading up the desktop.

I'm not sure exactly what the problem is and hoping if anyone here can tell me what programs/software to figure the main cause for this problem. Any help would be awesome.

That's painful.

Yeah. He doesn't want to build a new comp but wants a labtop instead... For reason I don't know why but I want to fix this problem soon if possible..

If you still have the windows installation disk try repairing the installation.

Hmm I'll give that a try and see if it helps thanks

Hey Unilision,

Do you receive any error messages or beeping sounds whenever the computer hangs?
You can check the event log to see if the problem is listed there. I would also recommend a full stress test to check if any of the parts is faulty.
Also what storage drive are you using? I would also recommend running a diagnostic tool to check its health. Each manufacturer has their own tool. E.g. for Western Digital I would recommend using WD Data Lifeguard Diagnostic tool (http://products.wdc.com/support/kb.ashx?id=3RHqAV).

This computer is a prebuilt, so I'm not sure what parts are from where. I'll have to take a look into the computer when I have time.

What type of stress test can I do? I've done one for the CPU so far and it failed at a certain extent. Though I believe it could be the Ram or HD itself that is causing the problem I have to see it.

Inside of the event log, the error Id are 6008, 219, 4101 & 10010 are the most daily common errors, though I'm not sure what they lead to

If you think it's the HDD, check in the device manager to see what brand is your drive and run the brand's diagnostic tool.
Do test the RAM and the CPU again for errors to make sure they are not the cause of the problem. I would look in the CPU and RAM sections of the forum for guides on how to properly perform the tests.

Here is some more info on the error codes:

Most of them have no impact on a regular end user, but there are some tricks on how to fix them.
Also check all your cables if they are plugged in properly and if they are not faulty.
