Hey guys,

I'm currently playing BF3 at a pretty high level, but I unfortunately don't have the money for a 120Hz monitor yet so I decided to get a CRT instead.

I now have a Compaq P1220 which runs 1600x1200 @95Hz nicely.

After a little bit of further research I found out that CRT's emit X-Rays, now I am wondering to which extent this could be dangerous for your health.

Does anyone here have an awnser to this?

Thanks in advance,

Overl0rd

Depends on how old the CRT monitor is, but you should be safe. From the little I learnt about them at school, everything's shielded so that you don't receive any dangerous amount of radiation. Anyone feel free to correct me though...

CRTs have been around for decades and still used in some places to this day. Even if they emit x-rays, it would be a very small dosage. Possibly not even enough to batter an eye lid if you were "exposed" to it on a daily basis.

I don't think there is anything to worry about  ^_^

The CRT in question is from may 2002 (does the age matter that much?).

Not really, but components might decade/erode over time. Anything older than maybe 20-30 years ( ? total guess) might have slightly weakened shielding due to environmental decay. That being said, the leaded glass they use in CRT's would be very inert, so there shouldn't be too much to worry about
