Hey guys,

So I'm really looking for a shock mount of sorts, and I am not keen on buying the $140 shockmount from blue (I have blue yeti). All the shockmounts I find are from roughly 43mm-50mm. Does anyone know of a 65mm shock mount. If you can please link it. I would like one for as cheap as possible, but for the sake of this, just link all that you can find.

Thank you for any help!

I was in your same position over a year ago. I bought the Blue shcokmount, but after a while I was sick of it so I ended up selling that and my Yeti to buy the audio setup I currently have.

Why did you get sick of it?

I most likely would have gone with something like the AT2020, etc, but on black friday the Yeti was $189 ish and I got it for around $100

It was just too big of a mic for me and my setup, that and that shockmount doesn't do an amazing job.

Oh ok.

And I never imagined it being a great shock mount, that's why I'm praying for something cheaper that works. $140 for a shitty shockmount is not going to happen.

The yeti is massive, and heavy.

Elastic bands are not going to hold this thing in place. At all.

What do you think the Blue spider mount uses?

Elastic bands.

Yes, but these home made ones are not going to give my any flexibility. They are not sturdy, and sure as hell aren't going to let me mount them to a boom, and move it around/put it at the angle I like or need.

Simply put, there are none. This is exactly why I never recommend buying a Yeti.

I would sell it off and buy an AT2020. Unlike the Yeti, it's compact, light, with tons of cheap aftermarket mounting options.

That's really not what I wanted to hear. I don't know how much I could sell it for, but I feel it could be more of a hassle than it's worth. I really don't want to have to sell it, go with a new mic, etc just so I can mount it on a boom.

I wish I knew all this when I bought the damned thing.

EDIT: Do you think that mounting the mic to just a boom/arm would help get rid of some noise?

I'm now looking for just a boom arm at the moment. I want to keep it as cheap as possible, my only issue being that most boom arms on amazon.ca are nice and cheap (neewer about $10-20, but shipping is $30-40).

So that's currently my dilemma. I  don't know why all this shipping to calgary is $40

Regarding Amazon.ca, I believe the taxes and import charges (brokerage fee) are combined in the "shipping and handling" total.

As for the boom arm stand, a desk mounted swivel-arm by itself will help a little (absorb some desk noise), but it's still noticeable.  A floor standing boom is also another option, as it wouldn't be susceptible to desk vibrations.  Either is definitely better than Blue's factory stand, which is like a tuning fork, picking up all kinds of noise through your desk.

You also have to make sure the boom arm can fit the Yeti AND support it's heavy weight.  Some arm stands require an adapter (from Blue) to be used, or Blue's Shock mount.  The only desk arm mount I know that can directly mount the Yeti (and support its heavy weight, albeit barely) is the Rode PSA1.  But it ain't cheap, $129 on Amazon.ca.

One of the spring arm types might help. I found a shock mount made no difference for my CAD U37 on a spring'd boom arm.

Regarding Amazon.ca, I believe the taxes and import charges (brokerage fee) are combined in the "shipping and handling" total.

As for the arm boom stand, depends on where the source of the noise is, but a desk mounted swivel-arm is definitely better then the stand that comes with the Blue mic (the factory stand it is notorious for picking up all kinds of noise through your desk).  A step up from that would be a floor standing boom, as it would be less susceptible to noise caused by desk vibrations.

You also have to make sure the boom arm can fit the Yeti AND support it's heavy weight.  Some arm stands require an adapter (from Blue) to be used, or Blue's Shock mount.  The only desk arm mount I know that can directly mount the Yeti (and supports it's heavy weight, barely) is the Rode PSA1.  But it ain't cheap, $129 on Amazon.ca.

Okay, I'll defiantly be going for a spring arm then. For me including shipping the Rode will be closer to $160, which while it might be nice, is just not worth it IMO. I also believe I have a $70 prepaid visa laying around which might come in nice and handy. I'm considering going for something along the lines of what i can find on http://www.amazon.ca/s/ref=nb_sb_noss_1?url=search-alias%3Daps&field-keywords=boom%20armpage.

Most of them are cheap, and while shipping and handling would be an insane mount, $40 for it all would be better than $160. My only issue is I don't know which one of these would be the best. I know they're not going to be the best, but I want something decently solid that will get the job done.

I did some puttering on .com just now, and noticed that there is this http://www.amazon.com/Broadcasting-Microphone-Suspension-Scissor-Extended/dp/B00DFUEZZI/ref=sr_1_13?ie=UTF8&qid=1424676341&sr=8-13&keywords=boom+armwhich appears to be the same as this http://www.amazon.ca/Neewer%C2%AE-Broadcasting-Microphone-Suspension-Extended/dp/B00DFUEZZI/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1424675861&sr=8-2&keywords=boom+arm on .ca. I presume they're the same product, and the reviews look good enough to me. And I'm thinking if worse comes to worse, I can return the product to amazon for a full refund. Shipping on that arm will be $24 damned dollars, but that plus this adapter http://www.amazon.ca/Monoprice-602000-Thread-Adapter-Microphone/dp/B00AJHE54G/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1424676581&sr=8-1&keywords=5+8+to+3+8+adapter still seems like overall a decent price.

What are your thoughts?

I have one, it does the job. I've heard complaints about the Rhode PSA1 about droop, some from Logan on teksyndicate, so it's not like throwing money at the problem will fix it.

5/8 inch male to 3/8 inch female mic screw adapter

profit

?

I made this purchase last week.. ...

cost me less than $20

I could do it for less than 15 too, my only issue is shipping and handling is a bitch.

But I'm most likely going to go for the $9 arm, and that adapter. With shipping and handling I'm looking at about $38. Which is an absolute pain in the ass for what should be probably like 20-25. But I'm still thinking it might be worth it, and I'll use that prepaid visa I got and it will still be free.

You're using Amazon, right?

If you haven't already, and have a CC, you can just to the PRIME trial thing and get free shipping for a month.

Provided you cancel on time.

It was cheap and is functional enough.  If you mount it to an end table or small stool next to you then desk vibration won't be a problem.

The setup is kinda bulky, but it does rotate 360 degrees.

Looks good. I'll just have to find the best spot to mount it. I'll try the back of my desk, away from my rig, and if there's still vibrations I'll just put a small table next to my desk.
