Steam update.

Hello Guys,

 

Every time I open Steam in desktop mode it does a 'checking for updates' in a ugly grey box, is there a way to stop it doing this even if it means checking for updates manually once a week?

 

I find it very annoying and distracting, I was hoping switching to an SSD would reduce the time its visible but this was not the case.

I am also not part of the beta and I have the same sort of problem.  I notice that Steam updates itself a lot and tends to get annoying.

Why would switching to a SSD change the time? It's downloading an update, not loading a game on the ssd.

Upgrade your internet if you want it to go faster.

My internet is 55 down and 15 up, that's not the issue, what I said is, is there a way to stop it and just do it manually once a week? I cant find anything in the options.

Nope, only way would be to start offline all the time. Steam client req's you be uptodate to use the store etc etc. Set steam to launch at start up, you'll barely notice the update at all. My comp is useable in like 20 seconds tops and i can click steam pretty much as soon as i see my desktop and launch with no update problems.
