This is my first custom build and was looking for an outside look for any fatal flaws that I may have over looked.

http://pcpartpicker.com/p/sNCXWZ

Price goal is to stay around 2000 $US.

OS will be 7 Ultimate until 10 becomes mainstream and yes I am aware that the PSU is a little overkill but the goal was to not have to replace it if i build a bigger pc down the road.

The target purpose of this build is a portable workhorse (CAD rendering, photo editing, ect.) and gaming at max settings. Plan on using 2-3 displays.

Any comment would be a great help due to my limited experience.

The target purpose of this build is a portable heavy workhorse (CAD rendering, photo editing, ect.), as well gaming at max settings. Plan on using 2-3 displays.

The psu is too long for the case. Regardless, I would not suggest getting such a large unit. Buying today based on one's expectation of future tech is expensive and ultimately futile.

Antec HCG-620M is a larger than needed psu but it is very good quality and currently available at a very good price. You might also consider SeaSonic M12II 520 Bronze or SeaSonic SSR-550RM.

80+ ratings certify electrical efficiency. Not quality.

I plan on running SSD only and removing the hard drive cage thus giving plenty of room for the PSU and spare cable room. The corsair link as well as 80 platinum are also something I considered when i picked this particular unit. Personally I feel that the PSU is about the only part that it is still safe to "future proof" when buying, but that's just my opinion.

Your build looks fine for gaming, but lacks a bit as a workstation... if it is primarily it's purpose.

One of my friends actually put his PC on a plane's general luggage compartment.  He had it in a C70.  It barely survived, but it survived.  He lost the function of the first PCI-E slot.
