I have 2 laptops one is my old one that has my Samsung evo ssd in it that I want in my new one. my new laptop has the os on a M.2 Sata with a HDD I want to swap drives and am wondering can I do this easily with a SATA cable or do I have to take them out ? I know its probably a dumb question but I don't know

If you only want to swap the data then some type of ethernet connection cable/ usb cable should be fine. (unless it is windows data then you may have some trouble)

I think it would be easier to just switch the drives.

Hey Candelstick,

Transferring a OS from one drive onto another could be done in two ways:
- Cloning creates an exact copy of your drive onto another drive and you don't need to reinstall the OS. The problem would be that the new drive should be larger in capacity than the older one. Cloning also transfers all files and folders and thus any potential errors from the old drive to the new one.

-Imaging is also an option where you create an image of your OS and restore it via the system repair drive when installing the OS

You would need a SATA to USB cable only. :)

Is there any free softwear cause cause the samsung data migration wont do the oposit for ssd to HDD and i just want it to factory settimg cause im giving it away

What brand is your HDD? Usually Acronis True Image has a free version for all major manufacturers and only requires that one of the drives is of that brand. For example, Western Digital drives use the Acronis True Image WD Edition. :)
