My friend uses an iMac, he wants to change the RAM. Does it have to be mac RAM? Can it use normal RAM? Because all I know is that mac's RAM is for Macbook Pro and Air.

If it fits it works, generally. Should be the same speed.

There is no such thing as mac specific RAM (macs however are VERY sensitive to timings etc and Apple will sell you 'normal' RAM that they say is Mac RAM but in reality it is just normal [but compatible] RAM). 

 

Tools such as Crucials at:-

will let you know which Ram sticks are compatible.
