Thanks, but got anything strictly gaming?  The i3 is a little devil at $100.  Some great gaming benchmarks.

The last link is gaming but it breaks when clicked through the site for some reason. So here is an archive of it. Tell me if it works now.

I can see that, thanks.  Looks like the 860K might be a good budget builder... I have not seen enough numbers though.

I would still go for the i3 according to that article.  Sure you can OC a 860K, but you have a path to an i5 with the i3.  Truth be told, you can also FSB (BCLK) OC the 4130, no?

Come on, needs to be an ITX?  That is not a valid point, really.

http://www.xbitlabs.com/articles/cpu/display/core-i3-4340-4330-4130_5.html#sect0

ITX is ITX and the closest thing, microATX, isn't very close at all. Sure he could save money by going ATX or mATX, but usually people decide to go ITX for a reason. And if its a steambox its likely going next to the TV, who wants a full tower in the living room? He could go with a bitfenix prodigy mATX or a phenom, but those are still pretty large cases compared to the elite 120.

As to those benchmarks, they seem sketchy. There's no mention of what GPU they're using and they show i3s outperforming i5s in some cases.

... it is why I favor the i3.  What is wrong with an i3 beating an i5 in a single thread application?  Those i5s are clocked at 3.2.

@nj4ck  Don't get me wrong, the 860K might be a great CPU for the price.

Nowhere did the OP say this HAD to be an ITX build.  ITX is what he envisioned by the looks of the initial build, but don't focus on a probably moot point.  Focus on the performance.  Performance and budget.

The i3 is a proven performer at the $100 range.

Yeah. Was busy sorting through info. Lol thanks

I don't know how well the X4 860K performs, but if you lean that way you could sacrifice form factor for something like this:

OK this is what I believe he wants. Had to change the mobo. Needed WiFi. The one in the new list fit the budget. Going to check the reviews on it soon as I'm done posting.

Ramamataz I did a check on the i3 and mobo set you selected, but they were incompatible. Plus he needed WiFi on the board and the USB 3.0. Couldn't find one cheap enough to fit into his budget. Plus the budget had to be out of pocket.

Thanks again everyone. I really learned a lot about AMD just now.

It's always a good day if you woke up breathing.

No, he didn't say that, but I'm going by probable cause here. ITX comes with rather severe compromises and generally higher cost in the low-end range, so most people who decide to go ITX have a reason.

And btw, I'm not arguing against the i3, I'm arguing for a balanced build under $500 with the maximum gaming performance for the money. Sacrificing the GPU for a better CPU has never been the right way to go. If OP says he can go mATX/ATX then by all means, he should get the i3. If it has to be ITX, the Athlon is a better choice.

I think something important for everyone to note is we are no longer in Kansas. No, wait... We're no longer on Windows. Looking at SteamOS with a OpenGL, Linux ecosystem. Meaning Mantle, DX12, DSR, and a lot of other features you could be thinking about won't happen.
