Hi everyone! I'm looking to build a little HTPC for my bedroom that would play 1080p videos using VLC player and use In-Home streaming from my downstairs gaming PC. I picked up an older Dell OptiPlex 760 with a Intel Core 2 Duo 3.0GHz, 400GB HHD, and 3GB DRR2 ram with a pretty bad PSU and I am thinking of stripping what parts I can use out of it and build a modest HTPC. Now I've been thinking of stripping out the CPU, all the ram, Hard drive for sure, and the DVD reader for my dvds and moving them into a spare case I have. This means I will need a new Motherboard and CPU fan since the OptiPlex using one of those HUGE fans. Any good cheap suggestions? I'm looking to spend no more $100. However I am also thinking of just dropping the whole board/cpu and going with this build since it would only be $95 and be more moderm without the need of a Dedicated GPU.

I would love any thoughts or suggestions for cheaper parts, thanks!

If it's one of the full-size Optiplex 760 (not SFF) then you could just add in a dedicated GPU.

Yeah its the full-size one but the case is in rough space and without a side panel.

I don't see why your needs couldn't be satisfied by a Raspberry Pi or something like that.

Won't I need an exerntal hard drive use for storage for a Paspberry Pi? I've never seen/used a Raspberry Pi before.
