Stock cpu frequencies or at least a very low overclock.

Not sure what Imc you have (you never said), might want to consider fixing that voltage and not leaving it on auto.

Put a fan near by and start with raising the voltage to about 1.65v.

Raise the frequency up one to 1800 or 1866, fix your timings to what it's rated for and try to boot.

Run Hyperpi 32M. Should pass. If not, start raising timings by 1. Any order you want, make sure you test every time you change a timing.

Repeat

Stress test with Memtest86 or HCI memtest (512MB) if you want to keep the overclock for a long time.

I suppose that's the basics.. You need to get comfortable with your bios and your HW.

i have the same ram. ripjaws ddr3-1600 9-9-9-24 1.5V

i have it successfully overclocked at DDR3-1800MHz 12-12-12-24 1.65V. might try for 1866. I was only able to achieve this OC on the z87 chipset.

poor RAM OC results on the z77 platform for me.

You will most likely not notice any performance increases with it overclocked, i havent. so your best bet is to run it at stock 1.5V cl9
