I have a 500GB Samsung 840 EVO that had 2 partitions on it, and I wanted to turn it into just one partition, so I deleted one volume, but when I tried to expand the other, it keeps telling me that there isn't enough space on the drive to do that, even though there is over 100GB of unallocated space. It won't let me turn the 100GB into a new partition either unless I delete the 350GB partition, but when I do that, it won't let me allocate the 350GB of unallocated space. Do you guys have any suggestions?

PotatoWater, make sure to fully delete the partition... In windows it's in MB, so 102,400 megabytes is the number you want.

Or converting to dynamic disk sometimes helps. But if you're running your OS off of it, you probably can't do it in windows. Have to do it in command line outside of the OS.

Edit: you need to use the diskpart utility. User guide: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/300415

Boot a Linux distro off a USB drive then use Gparted.

Don't need to do that. Windows has its own utility outside the OS environment, so long as you aren't loaded into it. See above.

It is fully deleted. I tried expanding it using a few different sizes that were well below 100GB, but no luck. Dynamic didn't help it any either. I'll try doing it in a command line outside of the OS.

I've had to do that a few times on OS drives. The utility works fairly well, and I believe you can even extend partitions in it.

The drive that I'm talking about isn't an OS drive yet, I want to make it one for my server, but for simplicity I wanted only one partition on it.

Why not just delete both partitions in windows then? Move whatever's on it off temporarily, then drop it back in after a format.

I tried that, it keeps telling me that there isn't enough space to make the partition, even if I try to make the partition much smaller than the unallocated space.

Try it in diskpart then and let me know how it works.

You may also want to give Minitool Partition Wizard a shot as well. It's free. I've used that for a couple years whenever I made adjustments to partitions. Works like a charm.
