HI,

i have a computer that i have been trying to get back up and running and i havent found out what is wrong yet.

it is a p4 that my parents is running, and it just wont start now.

w7 refuses to start up, it just blue screen every time now. so i tried to use the recovery which also wont start up. so then i took out my w7 usb to do the recovery from there. but that does not work either. i will get past the windows loading program and then i will just restart itself. so i then tried the cd which also the same problem. tried both 32 and 64 bits.

i then looked around for the win xp thinking that has to work, but that also came with a problem as well. it loads past the loading screen. but i do not get the option for installing windows. so that was also a bust. so then i downloaded Ubuntu x 64 and 32 which also does not work as well.

so not i  have no idea what i should do any more.

everything seems to be working well.

You have hardware failing. May be the RAM, or something on the motherboard.

And you checked the motherboard? How did you do it?

If you can get another hard drive, try that first.

Hardware is failing. Something on the motherboard. If you're using a functional hard drive now, then it's something around the motherboard.

It's time for a computer upgrade anyways.

windows 7 wont work on it at all. the hardware doesnt support the high precision events timer that a lot of the new windows stuff needs to function. as its hardware based it cant be emulated properly so any system that trys to run it without the supporting hardware will just bsod constantly.

the only o.s you will get to work are the older 1s between xp and win 95.

you will first need to clear out the hdd and get it back to raw. because windows 7 uses a slightly different MBR (master boot record) to that of xp so if you try and install xp on an hdd that had win7 on it you will get a failed boot.

so remove all partitions and boot of an xp disk not a usb. when your give the option create a new master partition table with only a single  primary partition. format it(quick will do) and install.

if all goes well windows should start up straight away... but be away windows xp is eol so you are gonnna run out of security updates sooner rather than later.

when this happens you dont ever want to use that pc to online bank or do anything requiring secure access.
