Moving steam games

Go to solution Solved by spenser_l,

Go to your current C:\Program Files\Steam\SteamApps\common folder, and copy all of the game folders you want to an external hard drive.

Then where ever you want to reinstall these games (I'm assuming on a new computer/fresh install), install Steam. Then copy over the game folders from your external drive to the new and empty SteamApps/common folder.

Then go into Steam, and try to install the game from your library. It will detect your local files and download anything that might be missing. From there you should be good to go.

For a more detailed explanation I'm sure there are Steam forums with users asking the same question.

EDIT: Disregard my previous steps, I misread your question. Your method should be fine:

Hey, folks

I have a question - Currently my steam/origin/uplay libraries are over 800Gb in size total, but due to the very limited speeds of my Internet (300kbps download speed) it would take two-three weeks at best non-stop to download it all and that is at full speed.

But I have access to a much faster connection at my friends house (rougly 4Mbps or more download speed), so - can I plug an external HDD to his PC, log my steam/uplay/origin, download everything to the external drive and then plug it to my PC and "restore" those games to add them to my library at home?

I have never done this, that is why I ask :)

Thanks
