Im currently making a new system and i own a kingston 120gb v300 ssd, i know it has sme bad rep but it seems to do ok for me. SHould i just bin it and gt a new one of a different brand or is the overtly bad hype about them a bit overexagerated

Well from what I know, they did a bait and switch and basically put in lesser quality products then the test sample. For the most part, when you buy a SSD whether it be crucial, samsung, intel, adata, it doesn't really matter how fast it is unless you do benchmarking. I'm not sure how bad the SSD is though, I'm sure other people know more about the situation.

Bin it!?

I hope you mean "keep in system as scratch disk"

...unless you're running a laptop - then pass it on to a m8.

I haven't experienced any of those lemon SSDs from kingston, but for sure - get a new drive if you're not happy.
I'm rocking cheap ADATA SSDs, which seem fine for me (especially for the price) but might not be fast enough unless you're running them in RAID 0 like myself.

Classic mid-range drives including Samsung EVO and the [non-lemon] Kingston would be good, or entry-level drives like my ADATA SP900 or Crucial if you're on a budget.
