Hello everybody, I recently built a new pc and everything was working fine, but over the past two week or so I've been getting occasional red screens while gaming and occasionally a whining sound coming from either the psu or gpu I can't quiet tell. The first thing I did was to uninstall all the gpu drivers and reinstall them, and so far that seems to have stopped the red screening as I haven't gotten one since restalling the drives (fingers crossed). However, the whining is still occurring now this has happened while I game as well as when I'm just surfing the internet. I was wondering if you guys could give me any further information about it is it my psu is bad and the reason for the red screens is because the gpu isn't getting enough power when it needs it? Or is it my gpu is bad? Or a combination of the two? Also, my gpu is a Msi R9 270 oc edition and my psu is a Corsair cs550m. Thank you all for any help you can give while I try and pinpoint the exact spot where the noise comes from.

i would say there are 70/30 chances that its a GPU coil whine, i have the smallest coil whine in my GPU too, only audible at 3 or 4 AM when everything is Dead Quiet and i only hear it when surfing the interwebs at said hours because when gaming, or even listening the chillest music will be louder than the coil whine, also i have a corsair cx750M and it has been doing pretty good. Why dont you install the GPU on another computer? if the noise persists then it is your GPU, and you could do the same with your PSU

The whining sound is definitely coming from the psu I'm going to check my gpu on my friends pc over the next couple of days to see if it red screens anymore. But what are chances the psu is causing my gpu problems.Or do I just need to get ready to rma my gpu?

Mmmmm i see, you said in your first post that you have been experiencing this problem for the last 2 weeks, well, to be sure, i would use the GPU on another PC or at least with other PSU for the next week to see if it keeps crashing, BUT PLEASE make sure the latest and greatest drivers for your PC are installed, and could do the same with the PSU aswell.

I know its a bit tedious and 1 week may seem pretty long but it would be good to find the problem first and not after RMAíng something that maybe was not the problem in the first place.

Dont forget, UPDATE DRIVERS check for anything that is not up-to-date, if you have the space, make another partition, do a fresh windows install with the latest drivers and make sure everything runs fine, all that just to make sure is not something related to software.
