So i'm just curious, I know there's the desktop GPU's which have like 12gb of VRAM, the titan has 6gb for example, which is kind of overkill in itself, I know you would probably want that for 4k, but why do some mobile gpus in notebooks have 12gb of VRAM like some 860m models, whats the point? that's like having a 770 with 12gb of vram, it doesn't make sense to me, someone wanna explain?

well some of them are dual gpu cards and they add up the vram even though to get your actual usable vram you need to cut the advertised vram in half (only for dual gpu cards or laptops)

Because it's a relatively cheap spec for the manufacturer to upgrade and people will pay more money for it. That's literally the only reason. Big numbers sound more impressive.

more VRAM is useful for virtual box

Unless ur gaming in Vbox you will not see any gain by allocating more than 500MB to the VM.
