HELP!!! I need new headphones ASAP

DrPlaystation

So Ive been using an old $80 pair of over ear closed design headphones, they are beginning to break here and there; first it was the cable wearing out and now the plastic band is cracking so I dont have much time before they are completely unusable. Long story short I nee a new pair of headphones, Im willing to spend up to $200 for a good pair. I have a desktop mic (AT2020 XLR condensor) so I dont need a headset but rather just headphones, also I do video/audio editing Im not quite an 'audiophile' but I like good sound. Friends of mine were telling me to look at Sennheisers but Im coming to you guys for help. Also Im in canada so they would need to be available from a Canadian retailer.

Sorry if I missed something this isnt only my first post on this forum but my first post on ANY forum.

Thank you for your time, any response would be appreciated.

I'd get the best Sennheiser you can find at a Canadian retailer in your price range.

Sorry I didnt mention many specifics. Yes I am a bit of a bass head Im into Dub, hip hop, electronica. I will be using these in public (school/library) so closed would be proffered, I will like to use this for everyday uses so portability and durability would be a priority, and Im no MLG pro; I care more about them amercing me into a game then being able to identify locations of enemies. Overall I want a HP that is bassy but doesnt sacrifice the highs and mids to the point that they are bad, durable so that Im not scared of breaking them when I put them on, and when I want to crank them up a bit but the entire room cant hear the madness I listen too. Any direction would be appreciated.

These are 50 dollars out of your price range, but Ultrasones have the best bass performance of any headphones I know, at least for music. I havent played games with them.. but listening to electronica and rap is a dream. This is a midrange Ultrasone headset FYI, audiophile grade and in the same league as HD600s and AKG 701s, while suffering some soundstage like all closed headphones.

I have a 2019 macbook pro with 64gb of ram and my gaming pc has been in the closet since 2018

As much as I would love that, the Canadian amazon is saying its like $400 with tax so thats double my price :( I would consider it if they were the same price as in America

the beyer will need an portable amp to go with it but I think it would be the best quality purchase in the segment with bass and not skimping on mids and highs.

http://www.amazon.com/Beyerdynamic-770-PRO-250-ohms/dp/B0006NL5SM/ref=sr_1_1?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1359255871&sr=1-1&keywords=beyerdynamic

however it isn't that portable, I don't know how it would take to being tossed in bags and stuff.

sony:

you still might be able to find the monster truck tire earcup design ones around

audio technica

these are for the cheaper ws55's I'm waiting for more reviews on the ws77 which is in your price range but only available in japan for now but they are available on ebay stores.

I've been so close to pull the trigger and order the ws77 from the japanese shippers on ebay,

oh yeah I forgot about the akg Tiestos

I'd rank the tiesto above the sony and the audio techinica

http://www.ebay.ca/sch/i.html?_nkw=akg+k167&_sacat=0&_odkw=akg+tiesto&_osacat=0&_from=R40

the tiesto folds up, super portable (more so than all the above) I think this is my top recommendation especially if you are going to be running around tossing these into a backpack etc

also I bought my M50's from estudio star's ebay outlet so they are a legit company shipping to canada. note as well that they have a best offer option as well so go ahead and negotiate a better price

Don't get the audiotechnica.... their lower end lines are not that good, with exception of the m50 and the AD700. I think the sony's are the best bet.

The beyer sadly will need to go simply because I have carried amps with me for use with old Mp3 players and it was a pain which I would rather not endure. I did more searching with the xb800's and it seems sony missed the mark (I also dont like the design) . With the choice of the AT's and the xb700's I decided to take the safe option with the XB's. I just bought them at Canada computers for $101 with shipping and tax, if I get them and they arent everything I hoped for then Ill still use them for use outside use and probably buy some sennheisers for my PC (449's). I have a friend with Sennheisers (439's) and they have GREAT sound but they are so balanced they are boring and need to be EQ'ed in my opinion so that makes them the better option for PC use.

I thankyou for your links, I will deffinitely look into AT for my next headset if Im unhappy with the Sony's. Ill probably bring back this thread in a week or so with my verdict and whether I will need further counselling.

Also I dont know what the etiquette is with self promotion but for those of you who are interested I make youtube videos and have about 12000 subs, my channel is youtube.com/drplaystationnation so feel free to check it our, I do minecraft stuff so It may not be your cup of tea.

Thankyou for all the help guys :)

I only linked the ws55 "the lower end line" as a showcase example my recommendation was for the ws77 from all that I have gathered and read the WS series from audio technica stays true to the audio technica's signature sound while delivering punchy midbass the sony's are more about the sub bass and suffer for that by sounding a bit muddy.

either way my recommendation would be the tiesto branded AKG durable portable and around the ear.
