Ok so im currently making a new build which will run:

i5 4690k

8gb hyperx fury ddr3

msi gaming 3 z97 mobo - I dont plan on doing any sli on this build ever

antec tp650W psu

zalman z11 plus hf1 case

 

The system will be used almost completely for gaming at 1080p so which graphics card would be a better choice:

r9 290 or a gtx 970 the budget for the gpu is £280

970 in my opinion.

In the future you may want to upgrade to 1440p/ 2160p and can just add another 970 and still get 40-60Fps in most games.

Would go witht the 970 for 1080p, its never uses less energy and also runs way cooler

both cards will be fine for 1080. i would push for the 970 becuase it does get slighty better fps in some titles and consumes less power
