Hello. I recently upgraded my mother board and CPU for bottlenecking purposes. I got an FX 8350 and a MSI 760gm P-34 (FX) motherboard. The CPU temperatures are normal (30-40 Celsius) and for some reason it shuts off every 5-10 minutes. I am running with an R9 290 at 967 mhz. I also have windows 7 ultimate running. I tried getting motherboard support on the MSI website but there is no option for a 760gm. only the 860. I don't really know what to do. I know its not overheating because its at 30 degrees celsius which I checked and is not very hot. My system temperatures are about the same. I even put a large fan near the computer with the case open and it would still turn off. I am not sure what it is or what to do. I tried installing the drivers (AMD Catalyst control center) and It still didn't do anything. I also tried doing some other AMD catalyst download (I remember what it did but not the filename.) Any recomendations or what to do? Anything helps, thank you.

It could be that your board is overheating(different from the CPU temp.). Your CPU has a TDP of 125 watts and your board only supports CPUs with a TDP of 95 watts. You can try reducing your CPU voltage and possibly frequency, but if you are within a return period I would go that route and get a different board.

Lowering the voltage reduces the power draw, thus reducing load on your VRM making it run cooler. You might have to reduce your CPU frequency if lowering the voltage makes your system unstable.

If you do this, lower the voltage in steps, not one big leap. If you reduce it too low your system won't post(a problem with most AMD MSI boards). If you lower it in steps, it will eventually become unstable(so you won't reach that sudden death point lol).

How long ago did you get that board?

I am returning it and getting a different board. I would rather my CPU work the way it should. Same with my motherboard.
