another problem, god help me :(

hello,

i have another new problem with my PC

remember my post ?  http://linustechtips.com/main/topic/299107-did-i-fry-my-gtx-980/

now i have another problem regarding my Motherboard, i have an MSI Z97 Gaming 5 , lastest Bio's released

i have a Qnix 27 inch, 2560x1449

problem is that i connected the cable to the DVI port in my motherboard and the screen only shows a Colored screen

like , whole black, whole white , whole red, etc , color changes ,,,

so what to do now, can't use my GPU because i broke it , and now my motherboard won't help me either :(

any idea if its a hardware issue ? or im just missing something?

PS ; i can use my GPU now ONLY on Safe mode with network, but the white lines still appear.

bump

do you have other cables to use?

it really bad luck to have your mobo and GPu die on you

you sure you build your PC correctly?

How are you cooling that CPU now after removing the water cooling? Did you run it without cooling or a heat sink? You could have damaged your motherboard and/or the CPU. Man seriously fly to Michigan, bring me the parts and I´ll build the next PC for you together including a bad ass custom watercooling, I won´t even charge you... first the GTX980 and then this :( .

I run a large custom watercooling and I changed my CPU from a 5930K to a 5960X today in less than 10 minutes... it´s not as if it was black magic.

im cooling my CPU with EK waterblock, im overclocking my CPU at 4.6Ghz , temp is 23, so im pretty sure that my CPU is perfectly fine. however my GPU broke due to known issue i linked in the original post, so i think ill check my bios now using my GPU since i can access only bios and safe mode with it, ill update soon.

Yes but if you plug in into the DVI of your mainboard and you get just lines and colors, that could mean that your mainboard is faulty as well, as long as you always had enough cooling for the CPU. But try to set the CPU back to stock settings and reset the CMOS of your BIOS and try again.

you are mistaken, the lines only appear when i plug the GPU, when i connect the DVI cable to the motherboard there is no white lines, only full colored screen, and i can hear windows voice too, if my motherboard is not working then how can i get into safe mode with my GPU?,, i restarted every settings i made , i even removed the circle battery from the back to reset every thing.

I am not entirely sure if I can follow your description here. I mean that that GTX980 is dead should be clear by now, but if you are plugging another GPU into your PCIe of your mainboard and you get those lines then it is likely that your PCIe slot is faulty and therefore the motherboard itself.

If you don´t get a normal picture (windows standard grpahics drivers) at all, then it is also likely that your mainboard is faulty.

i do not have another GPU right now, what i meant there is that i REMOVE the whole GPU from the PCI slot to use my motherboard, im not stupid.

ok here you go, i managed to get a TV with HDMI cable, and i connect the HDMI first to my GPU and i managed to sneak after windows logo :-

but it was very small and you can even see the pixels

i removed my GPU from my motherboard and i got a really good full HD picture :

so the problem is from the DVI cable ? or from the monitor it self?

I've spent some time looking at DVI connections and how they work and it looks like your right, it's either the cable or the monitor itself.

At first I thought the mobo was putting out a signal that the monitor does not support but now after a little more research I'm thinking it should be working.

Can you test the cable/monitor on a different PC? Or try a new DVI cable? I think your monitor might be damaged, or maybe some obscure incompatibility between the mobo and monitor.

Hope this helps :)

PS. I think your mobo should be fine, It looks tough :)
