why do you HAVE to buy a processor. Just buy the board, enjoy your savings, and sit on it till next paycheck

Hey guys, so my original plan was to save up and grab an MSI Gaming-5 mobo, a 4690K and a Swiftech H220-X. Well right now the Gaming 5 is on sell for $20 off, and I'm afraid it's going to sell out. This is the only board that I've found that I've really like everything about in my price range. So, I'm getting paid tomorrow and was thinking to buy the board and a G3258, then grab everything else later. What do you guys think? It'll cost me $40 more, and I'll lose performance for a month or so, but I'll gain a lot more later. Any thoughts?

I'd get an i5 and that board, and then get a cheaper cpu cooler for the time being.

I'm only getting $205 tomorrow, so even a G3258 is cutting it close.

As far as the CPU goes, I think trading the much more powerful i5 4690K for a Pentium G3258 is probable not the best idea.

ON A 7 MONTH BREAK FROM THESE LTT FORUMS. WILL BE BACK ON NOVEMBER 5th.

yep, you can also go with some other, lower-end pentium to save up some more. And I doubt it will sell out, if it will it will surely get re-stocked. And good cpu and mobo choice

and also get a third-party cooler

Longboarders/ skaters message me!

I'll upgrade to a 4690K later, but for now just go with a G3258 so I don't lose the chance to buy that board.

That's what I was thinking, but I'd like to have the best amount of performance right now.

Scratch what I said.

To make sure it works, I don't want to buy a board wait a month get my CPU and not have it work. I mean I'm sure it will. I'd just like to use it. Though do you think I'd be able to RMA after waiting that long if it is DOA?

depends. Can you return your G3258? If not, that's a waste of $100 bucks :c

That's a good point. It would save wasting money on a CPU he doesn't plan to keep. :)

Probably not, unless I get a perfect timing and have like one day left to return it when I get my other stuff.

If the board doesn't work after a month then it will still be covered by the MFG warranty...

I've dealt with newegg once like this. I bought a HDD from the. And didn't use it for 2 weeks. It was DOA, and I got it replaced as such. I just had to explain to the rep what had happened and he approved it for me. He said it was a "one-time" thing, but I wouldn't be surprised if they don't do it for someone else.

I was just polite and courteous the whole time, best way to get what you want from CS reps =P

Alright, what I can also do is buy the board, and CPU. Test everything then return the CPU. I'll sleep on it  :)

I'm fairly certain you are not allowed to return CPU's once the box has been opened. You can exchange them but not return them.

Read the fine print, newegg and tigerdirect both have a policy regarding CPU's
