THere is hope. use no-ip.com its really cool basically it makes a free dns for you and dynamically updates it with a little program that you run on your computer

Hey guys, so for I've setup an FTP with the help of Filezilla Server on my pc, and i am mostly using it as a solution to keep my files with me on the go, i use ES File Explorer on my HTC one M7 to copy, send, delete anything on the go if i am away from my pc.

Now i should stress i am not a networking guru by any stretch but i got this little problem which is bugging me a bit, ill try to explain it as best as i can.

Okay so I've got everything set through the router, I forwarded the necessary ip's, port's. i also used my external ip address through ES file explorer so that i can connect to the network from outside. but the problem is the Pc which has the server on it is running on a residential network, which means i get a dynamic ip address and while Filezilla automatically retrieves any changes made to the external ip, Es file explorer doesn't, which means my phone losses connectivity until i get back home get my new external ip and input it into File explorer.

I keep finding myself in situations where i am nowhere near my network in order to retrieve my External ip after it has changed and i just have to wait till get back home and set it to my phone again.

So my question is there is a way where my phone can also update my external ip, without me having to manually do it every time it changes?

If i missed anything, ask and i shall reply, sorry if my explanation was lacking.

write/create a program/script that will get the ip address and email it to yourself every x hours/mins.

If you lose connection, check email to see what the ip changed to.
