So my build is

I5 4670k
Sapphire r9 290 (going to CF in the future)
16GB gskill ripjawsx ram

MSI Z87-G55 mobo

EVGA SuperNOVA 1000 G2 psu

What kind of cooling do i need and which one ?

Also im planning another build with the same stuff except the cpu will be 8320e, i'd like some advice on cooling about that one too

Thank you

Something like a Cooler Master Hyper 212 Dark Rock Slim for lighter overclocks or Corsair H105/Nepton 240m/NH-D14/NH-D15 for heavier overclocks. P.s. a 1000w psu is enough for three 290s -- so, way overkill...I'd actually go with an EVGA G2 850w psu.

Also, what are you using the FX8 system for?

you only really need 850w for CF 290.

anyways, I'm happy with my Phanteks PH-TC14PE.  It's pretty much on par with the Noctua D14, but you can choose a color you like.

The Coolermaster Hyper 212 Evo could be your baseline. This will cool your system, but is not as high performing as the rest of your system.

There are a couple of options. The Noctua NH-D15 will most likely be your best option, but probably overkill. And also quite expensive.

The Noctua NH-D14 on the other hand will provide close to that cooling performance while being more wallet friendly.

If you want Noctua, and who could blame you, but don't want a dual tower heatsink, maybe look at the NH-U12S or NH-U14S.

Another good option might be the Dark Rock Pro.

Which will also probably look better.

The FX8 will be for gaming/recording as well but for a more budget limited build

Wouldnt the watercooling be overkill ?

NH-D14 or H80/100.

Also 1kw for i5/R9 290?

Does the phanteks have 2 fans on it ?

I'd check out a Xeon E3 1231v3 then as it can easily run on a low end board and will surpass a heavily overclocked FX8 in terms of performance for not a whole lot more.

Unfortunately in order to CF, the xeon e3 1231v3 mobo and the FX8 mobo are the same price (+-5euros), and the difference in price is not negligible

So were talking for a price difference of 130-150 euros, almost 50% up

-snip-

I'm currently using the Nepton 240M on my 5930K, I put another 2 fans on it for push pull and am getting 28-30C idle overclocked to 4GHz.

Just speaking from experience!

Googling reports D14 will only just fit...D15 might not but it could.

pc specs: 4 function calculator / 8 digit lcd display / colored numeric and function buttons
